The good thing about this is that you do not even have to enter any details of your Bank Account or Debit / Credit Card in it.


The full form of UPI is the Unified Payments Interface. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) took the initiative to introduce UPI. Although the UPI Payment Platform was started in 2015, the real boom came after the demonetization in India in 2016.

What is the full form of UPI

All transactions of UPI are done under the supervision of NPCI. Apart from this, withdrawing money from all banks and their ATMs is also operated by this institution.

Currently all banks including SBI, PNB, ICICI, HDFC, Oriental support UPI. Along with these, big payment platforms like BHIM, Paytm, Google Pay have also joined with UPI.

UPI has become the only platform where one can access various services of different banks. You can create your own UPI ID of any UPI supporting bank which can be used for money transfer and online payment.

You can send money from one bank to another in real-time. To make any payment through UPI, you will just need Mobile Number, Aadhaar Number, or UPI ID (Virtual Payment Address).

How to use UPI: How to create UPI ID and PIN

To use the payment facility of UPI, first, you have to create your UPI ID which will be linked with your bank account. After this, whenever you send money or pay any bill from that UPI ID, that money will be deducted from your bank account.

You can create UPI ID Set-Up from any UPI App that provides this facility. BHIM UPI, Google Tez, Paytm are some such apps from where you can create your UPI ID. UPI ID starts with your mobile number, followed by @ and then the sign of the app from which you are creating the UPI ID. For example, BHIM UPI ID will be 96715@UPI. Similarly, the UPI ID generated from PayTM will be [email protected]


The process of creating a new UPI ID is almost the same across all platforms. Your Registered Mobile Number and Debit/ATM/Credit Card will be required to create a UPI ID. You just have to follow the simple steps mentioned below.

  • To generate a UPI ID, there should be a UPI App on the phone. You can download BHIM App from here.
  • By going to the app, you have to first create your UPI profile, for which you should have a registered mobile number that is linked to your bank account. Your mobile number will be verified through SMS.
  • After this, you have to add your bank account. Select your bank by going to Add Account Option. Here you will be asked for some details of your Debit / ATM card.
  • After adding your account, you have to create a UPI PIN which will be number 4. You have to create a UPI PIN that you can remember, you will need it to make any payment.

How to transfer money with BHIM UPI

Among the most popular UPI apps, the top name is BHIM UPI App, which is very easy to use and has been created by NPCI itself. You can install this UPIApp app on both Android and iOS (Apple Phone). You can also use the BHIM App to create a UPI ID, create a UPI PIN and check your bank account balance.

  • Sending money with the BHIM UPI app is very easy. Bhim App gives its users the freedom to send money to anyone through Mobile Number, UPI ID, or Bank Account + IFSC Code.
  • After creating the UPI ID, you have to click on SEND option in Bhim App.
  • Now you have to enter the mobile number or UPI ID of the person to whom you want to send money. If you want to put money directly in someone’s bank account without any UPI ID, then you can also enter IFSC Code along with his account number.
  • After this, you have to fill in the amount which you have to send and click on the Pay button given below. You will be asked for your UPI PIN, which they enter, the money will be sent.
